Become a Master School Lunch Maker with La Tortilla Factory

In Back to School, Kids by JennaLeave a Comment

Back to school season brings many changes, but of all the things that we dislike, we dislike making lunches the most! Every morning, the conversation is the same. We talk about what the kids want for lunch and what snacks they want. Then, without fail, even though they picked their own lunch, they come home with half of the food untouched. This ritual has me wanting to pull my hair out! Who’s with me? This year, I am committed to becoming a Master School Lunch Maker – that’s right…it’s a real thing, or at least it is now! Lunch is about more than making a sandwich! While you get bored of making the same foods, they get tired of eating the same thing all time…so get creative!

Tortilla’s save the day

Let’s talk about simple ways to become a mater school lunch maker.

Tip #1: Keep it simple. What if I told you that you could make more than an entire week of lunches with tortillas? There are so many great ideas that make for a delicious lunch all starting with tortillas! We’ve got you covered for and entire week (and then some)!

Tip #2: Keep it healthy. Know what you are feeding your children! We are using the Non-GMO, Organic Tortillas and Non-GMO Wraps from La Tortilla Factory. La Tortilla Factory has simple better ingredients and nutrition in their tortillas. There is no “bad stuff” or fillings, they use fewer ingredients (making the more natural) which makes them taste better, they are non-GMO, they have no artificial flavors or coloring and no refined sugars! They are delicious and healthy!

Tip #3: Think outside of the box. We mean exactly that! Forget buying boxed goods and make a few of your own. We are thinking home made crackers and chips…it’s way easier then you think!

Tip #4: Change up some of our below ideas with your own twist to make lunches for weeks and weeks on end! Then, share them on your socials using #BTSwithLTF for a chance to win a La Tortilla Factory Back to School Swag Kit worth $250. Here are some ideas to help you become a master school lunch maker!

Tortilla Chips

Homemade tortilla chips make a delicious snack for your kids. Package them up with some plain salsa or cook up some ground meat to make a meat salsa for some protein. The kids love finger foods, so have fun with these! Choose a different dipping sauce each time to add variety. Salsa, guacamole and humus all make yummy choices!

Tortilla Pizza

Almost every kid loves pizza, so why not make your own! One of my kids’ favorite meals to make is pizza! It’s so easy for them to put together, you can make it the night before and then bake it for a few minutes in the morning before they head off to school. We love using the Non-GMO Tomato Basil La Tortilla Factory Wraps to add some delicious flavor and extra vegetables to their diet!

Tortilla roll-ups

How cute are these? Imagine how much your kids will love them! Imagine all the possibilities! Our kids love cream cheese, so we like to make cream cheese and cucumber roll ups, but there are so many options! Other popular roll-ups include cream cheese and jam, peanut butter (or faux peanut better) and banana, and turkey and cheese! The roll up is a great new twist on an old school sandwich!

Tortilla cups

These are one of my all time favorites. Tortilla cups are so versatile, fun and yummy! Simple cut tortillas into small circles and place them into a muffin tin. Bake them for a few minutes until they harden. Let the cups cool and then fill them with whatever your child’s hearts desires! This is a great bowl for chicken caesar salad or your kids can enjoy mini taco cups! Send ground meat, salsa, cheese, and some sour cream or guacamole for them to fill on their own. Don’t forget the spoon for scooping!

Cheese and “crackers”

Forget the store bought crackers, you won’t believe how easy it is to make your own! Cut tortillas into squares triangles or whatever small cookie cutter shapes you have in the drawer and bake up your own healthy crackers. Spread some olive oil on the tortillas, season them to your child’s taste and bake for a just a few minutes. Create them with your child in mind. Want the same great taste without the hassle? Try the LTF 50/50 Crisps! Slice up some cheeses and send your child to school with cheese and crackers for a snack, or throw in some cold cuts to make it a whole meal!

Tortilla sushi cones

Sushi is all the rage in my life and while my kids think they like sushi, seaweed is not their idea of delicious. Instead, I use all their favorites to make our own tortilla sushi cones! Roll up a tortilla filled with yummy ingredients including rice, avocado, cucumber, crab meat and whatever else your children love. Call it a sushi cone and your child will have the most unique and delicious lunch in the class!
