The History Behind Zutano Kids

Another fun event I attended in New York was for Zutano, hosted by Melisa of Project Nursery and Nicole of MomTrends.  This colorful event took place at the famous FAO Schwarz.  I really enjoyed this event because not only am I a fan of Zutano but children’s clothing in general but because I was taken through the history of Zutano.  The back story of this whimsical clothing brand is just as charming and sweet as the clothes they make!

When Michael and Uli Belenky’s first daughter arrived, the world of baby and children’s clothing also changed for the better. They wanted to create a line of baby clothes that were as unique as their precious daughter. The clothing they made were first sold to many small boutiques in New York City and orders were hand-delivered by Michael himself from the seat of a bicycle!

Once their company became to big for their tiny place in the city, the Belenky’s packed up Zutano and headed North to a Hilltop Farm in Cabot, Vermont.   This was not just a clothing brand, It was a community.  Employees were encouraged to bring their babies to work, plant seasonal vegetables in the community garden and treat every customer like family.  Zutano is still located in Vermont today, almost twenty years later, still designing products in the brightest colors, the most sumptuous, high-quality fabrics with patterns and prints that are designed to be mixed and matched.  And to think…it all began on a bike!
