During New York Fashion Week, Janelle Funari showcased her newest line of handmade artisan eco-couture, which is both feminine and edgy. The show began with a choreographed dance by a young model in a modern black and white cape, which mirrored the JFNY logo. The model kept the audience in suspense as she walked towards the crowd backwards. When she turned around, she danced down the runway putting on a show, wearing an architecturally and sophisticated designed outfit.
Technology meets fashion
Throughout the show, we saw elements of a floral laser-cut design, some with black diamond Swarovski crystal embellishments. We couldn’t take our eyes off the Maia, which is a catsuit with a detachable tulle and Georgette chiffon open-front, floor-length skirt, making the look both modern and wearable. We can’t wait to be invited to the right event to wear this look!
Timeless and versatile pieces
There is no denying that when the children came down the catwalk, the crowd went wild! One after the next, the girls came out poised in a variety of dresses made of silk charmeuse, layered tutus and lace accents. The organic cotton jersey linings ensured that the little girls remain comfortable while in extravagant dresses. One show stopper after the next displayed these versatile, dreamy dresses with removable satin waistbands, sparkly tutus, removable flowers and capes.
A modern design that shimmers and shines
The new children’s dresses include accents that shimmer and shine including beaded sleeves and belts. The Ava dress is unlike any other children’s dress. This dress is designed for the girl with an eye for modern design and is a true masterpiece. The A-line dress is hand-painted with metallic holographic lace, features an asymmetrical pleated empire waist, cape, puffed neck detail and French scalloped lace Swarovski crystal embellished cuff.
At the end of the show, we spoke with some of the models who shared their excitement about the line. In speaking with them, we learned that Janelle gave them the freedom to choreograph some of their own dance moves to showcase on the runway as many of them are competitive dancers. This made the show unique and captivating for the audience who sat in awe as they enjoyed the show thoroughly. For the models, they were left with a sense of pride after they showcased their individuality, creativity and passion, all elements which Janelle includes in each of her pieces. The connection between Janelle and the models proves that she understands the importance of making each children’s garment wearable and unique.
Fashionable and personable
Meeting Janelle was an absolute pleasure as well. She was so easy to connect with on a personal and professional level. The children seemed to gravitate to her as she praised their performances and posed for pictures with them along with her dog who was incorporated into the show.
Comfortable twirling princess
After watching this incredible fashion show and seeing some of the wonderful dresses, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to put Addison in the Olivia dress. The organic cotton lining made it comfortable to wear and she loved spinning in it all night long, continuously calling herself a princess! The bold accents in the delicate layered tutu allowed her to sparkle and shine her way through the night. In addition to the lining of the dress being comfortable, the silk charmeuse bodice was soft on her underarms, which made the dress comfortable for her to dance the night away in! She was a showstopper in this incredible dress!
