Halloween season arrived, and I couldn’t be more excited. I love the decorations and the pumpkins. I adore the crisp New York City weather, and I can’t get enough of the smell of apple cider everywhere. This time of the year makes me happy.

Why I love Halloween

I always liked Halloween. Growing up in Brazil, we never had this holiday. However, I always saw it in movies, and I dreamed about experiencing it. When I moved to the US — 11 years ago! — I was surprised to see what I saw on movies and TV actually happened. People get excited this time of the year, and I think it’s amazing.

I actually met my husband 7 years ago at a Halloween party. So Halloween became even more special to me. After having a baby, I got more excited about his Halloween experience than my own. We didn’t do much on Dylan’s first Halloween, because he was only three months old. Last year, he was a bit over a year old — and walking everywhere! So we took him to a parade and a couple of kids’ Halloween parties around our neighborhood. It was the best! I cannot wait to do the same this year.

Finding a Halloween costume for toddlers

I like to be basic when it comes to kids’ costumes. I want my son to feel comfortable, and I don’t want to spend tons of money on a costume he will only wear once. So last year I bought pajamas and made those into a costume for him. It worked perfectly. Luckily, some amazing brands make the cutest pajamas that work as costumes. Even if you splurge a bit, your little one will wear the pajamas for months. It’s a win-win situation.

Hanna Andersson pajama costumes

Last year, I got Dylan Darth Vader pajamas from Hanna Andersson, which I loved. So this year I got him another pair of pajamas from there — just a different character. He only stopped wearing his Darth Vader pajama costume a couple of months ago!

Carter’s pajama costumes

Carter’s makes super cute pajama costumes, too. You can accessorize if you want to add props. Dylan will keep wearing pajamas for Halloween until he asks for his own costume. Even then, I hope I can find pajamas for that!
