With the fourth of July holiday just days away, it’s time to start gearing up for your holiday get-togethers. We’ve gathered some of our favorite recipes from our friends at Pinterest for the ultimate in yummy, and festive, cookout favorites.

4th of July Party Planning on a Budget

Red, White and Blue Kabobs

Make a red, white and blue spectacular by building blueberries, strawberries and bananas into kabobs. Serve with whipped cream or yogurt for dipping.  This is a great opportunity to let the kids help in the kitchen – building them is a cinch and it totally keeps them busy!

The Patriotic Mocktail

Try this trick with three separate drinks – fruit punch, blue Gatorade and Sprite. Layer in that exact order for the effect to take place.

Festive Three-Layer Cake

Make your holiday cake extra special with three layers  – red velvet, blue velvet, and white. Top with cream cheese frosting, blueberries and strawberries. Serve with a smile, because people are going to be impressed.

Stars and Stripes Fruit Salad

This one might take a little more work, but it’s definitely worth it.  Take a star shaped cookie cutter to slices of watermelon and mix into a bowl of blueberries – instant star spangled fruit salad.

Wait! You gotta check out this Captain America Birthday party!

Moms, what are your favorite Fourth of July recipes?

  4. How do you keep the bananas from turning brown? I have heard lemon juice but I thought it would effect the taste

  5. I tried making the Patriotic Mocktail and it blended all together. Do you need to add ice first? Is there a certain fruit punch I need to use?
