With fall officially upon us, we wanted to share a recipe for fall scented playdough. My kids love playing with playdough and as they head back to school, they are reminded of how much fun it is to both make and play with it. As it is, play dough is a sensory activity. The way it feels is unlike most items kids play with and they can really get their hands dirty and use their imagination as they play.
Along with fall comes so many delicious scents that we love to fill our home with. From pumpkin pie to apple crisp, these smells make you feel warm and cozy and tell you that it’s time to say goodbye to the warm weather. Adding these scents to your play dough recipe is a great way to involve all of your child’s senses!
Here is our simple playdough recipe that never fails us!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of flour
- 1 cup of water
- Tbsp. of oil
- 1/2 cup of salt
- 1 tsp of cream of tartar
- A few drops of food coloring depending on the desired* color
*For a richer color, use
Additions for smell include: Pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon and berry flavored juice crystals.
Mix it up
Mix flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil together. Select one of the spices/add-ins and add in a sprinkle or teaspoon depending on how fragrant you would like the playdough to be. Boil 1 cup of water and add food coloring to the water. Add boiling water to the dry mixture a little bit at a time until you get the desired consistency. Voila! Store the playdough in an air tight container for long lasting playdough. Enjoy!
