The High Line, New York City
I am in New York City at least once if not twice a year and one of my favorite things to do is walk the High Line, it is a must do when visiting New York City. The High Line is an old freight rail line that has been transformed into a public park on Manhattan’s West Side and it is the perfect way to spend the afternoon. The High Line is elevated above the city, is beautifully landscaped with unique art and sculptures along the way. It is truly one of the best spots to watch the city go by, have lunch or grab a coffee with a friend.
It is owned by the City of New York, and maintained and operated by Friends of the High Line. Founded in 1999 by community residents, Friends of the High Line fought for the High Line’s preservation and transformation at a time when the historic structure was under the threat of demolition. It is now the non-profit conservancy working with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation to make sure the High Line is maintained as an extraordinary public space for all visitors to enjoy. Garments For Good
The High Line has partnered with J.Crew’s Garments for Goods charitable program to create a collection celebrating the story of the High Line. 100% of the proceeds will support Friends of the High Line, helping the non-profit keep the High Line clean, beautiful, and inspiring for the millions of people who visit the park each year. The collection features women’s, men’s, and children’s tees, totes, accessory bags, charm bracelets that pay artistic tribute to the High Line’s history.
In addition to the tees and sweatshirts, the whimsical collection also features a “Park in the Sky” canvas tote bag, friendship bracelets for women and children with High Line flower charms, and a special High Line onesie for babies.
The entire collection will be offered at the High Line Shop as well as on the High Line at West 16th Street between May and October. The collection will also be available for purchase at select J.Crew stores in New York City and at J.Crew.com.
This collection marks the launch of J.Crew’s new corporate responsibility platform, “Garments for Good”, which will serve as an umbrella for the brand’s charitable product initiatives. The concept behind “Garments for Good” is to use J.Crew’s creative resources to lend support, designing T-shirts and other items to sell in store and online with 100% net proceeds going back to the charitable partner.
Next time you are in New York walk the High Line it’s a true city gem!
