As May approaches every year, I begin to think about my mom and how important she is to me. May is a very big month as we celebrate Mother’s Day and her birthday. Three years ago on Mother’s Day, I gave her the biggest gift of all, my daughter, her grand-daughter. Having my daughter on such a special day has given a new meaning to Mother’s Day for us all, but especially for me. I constantly think about my relationship with my daughter and hope that I will be as close with her as I am with my mom.
With each passing year, I think more and more about my relationship with my mom and how it has evolved over the years. My relationship with her is one that I cherish and never take for granted. As a mother now myself, I am so grateful for the incredible role model that my mom has been for me. She is truly an inspiration and I am always flattered when people tell me that I am like her. She has always had a very strong work ethic and she still does. She never stops, always making sure that she has time for everyone and everything that she loves. She has taught me what a work-life balance looks like and how to do it all.
My mom is an inspiration. Through so many difficult times, she has always held her head high and managed to move forward when at times it seemed impossible. Not only has she kept herself going, but she has been a rock for our family supporting each and everyone of us through it all. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 years ago, I was forced to think about what my life would be like without her, a thought I could not bear. She fought hard and didn’t miss a beat when she was going through it all and even came to surprise me on my 20th birthday while I was away at school and she was undergoing chemotherapy. Inspirational is not a strong enough word to describe my mom.
