I admit that when my girls started approaching the tween years, I thought I would miss the pink and the pretty, the twirly and the sweet. And maybe I mourned a little bit for those little girl’s clothes.
Until I realized that shopping with a tween was actually more fun. The clothes aren’t just the sweet girl’s clothes that I fell in love with – the clothes for tweens are what my girls choose now to show their style, flaunt their personality, and start to really understand fashion trends.
Because what’s awesome about clothing for tweens is while it is(and should be) age appropriate, it is also starting to look like clothing that I would wear – some basic jeans, comfy boots, great tops, a scarf, a basic jacket – all with a few amazing trend pieces thrown in.
I sat down with my 9 year old to pick out some fun outfits that she would wear, and here is what we came up with.
The first look is what she calls ‘an everyday look’ – something she would wear to school or around the house. It has Fall trends worked in as it includes jeggings, stripes, slouchy boots and color blocking.
The second look is a preppy look that is a little more dressed-up. She said she would also wear this to school – but maybe on a dressier day and maybe if we went to the mall or out for dinner. This preppy look incorporates some great Fall trends like a classic pea coat, fun plaid, oxford shoes and and a cable knit sweater.
The third look is a little dressier. My girl loves her jeans – but I insist on a few dresses in her closet – so this denim shirt-dress is one she fell in love with. She loves this look because while it’s a dress – it is still casual. Shirt-dresses are hot this season, as are riding boots and fabulous scarves.
The last look is another everyday look which is so perfect for Fall and includes awesome fringe boots, a fair-isle sweater and bright colored jeans.
What is your favorite trend for tweens this season?
