Get a Jump on Spring 2014

Are you dreaming of spring…and spring fashions? Here are some spring 2014 fashion trends you can start wearing right now, even as the winter winds blow. Some of these on-trend pieces may already be chilling in your closet! (If so, lucky you! That means more shopping budget for summer shoes.) But if the temps are chilly, be sure to pair these looks with appropriate shoes and outerwear. Even savvy, sassy moms know frostbite is a total fashion don’t.

Sporty Chic

Sporty shapes and details were all over the runway for spring. Though high in chic factor, it is a surprisingly low-effort look. Pair easy, drawstring pants with modern heels. Look for tops in stretchy, hi-tech fabrics or with athletic touches. Keep jewelry graphic and simple — no need for jumbles of bangles or chains (too Run D.M.C.!) Top the look with a baseball jacket or bomber.

Pastel Power

Evoke spring through 2014’s popular pastel colors, even as you keep cozy. Think pink… and mint, lavender, lemon and baby blue. Layer light-colored tops and sweaters, choose your lighter rinse jeans and tie on airy floral scarves. Pull out your Easter egg ensembles and work them in with your winter staples.

Wideleg Pants

Although skinnies are still going strong, wideleg pans are gaining on them. The look is youthful and music-festival-fresh after seasons of slim cuts. Pull your palazzos, flares, sailor pants and Katherine Hepburn trousers out of storage. Keep your top fitted or accentuate your waist with a slightly cropped style. Pair with a chunky heel for legs that go on for miles.

Midi Pencil Skirts

Minis and maxis are fly, but both lengths feel too summery to wear now. Enter the skirt of current couture cool — the below-the-knee midi pencil. This body-conscious cut is seasonless and sultry. Choose strong, feminine shoes that make a serious impact, such as t-straps, slim booties or shooties. A simple blouse, minimal jewelry and an understated clutch balance the sexiness of the look.

Do you have any of these items already hanging in your closet?

  1. I want everything in your pastel power section. I especially want a pair of Tod’s mocs today after slipping on ice. I won’t be wearing heels any time soon!

  2. I’m not one to rock the pastels but perhaps I could channel my inner Victoria Beckham from her Spice Girls days to do the sporty chic look! Thanks for always being my personal fashion maven! Always love your suggestions!
