Paradise found
When I envision paradise, it’s often at a beachy location with a lush landscape, inviting surroundings and a fruity drink not too far away. If you make that same location a family-friendly resort aimed at making Jr. just as happy as Mom, then you’ve most certainly found a place that will change the way your family vacations forever. That place for me is now the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar in Cabo San Lucas.
Hacienda Del Mar is about a 40-minute cab ride from the Los Cabos International Airport. I have been to Mexico before, but never in the region of Baja California Sur. I was immediately struck by the beautiful landscape with the jutting mountains, never-seen-before types of cacti and tall palm trees along the edges of the highway. It was a sight to behold and one in which my little one was immediately awe-struck.
Upon entering the secured property of the Hacienda Del Mar, I felt like I was some sort of super star. The meticulously cared for area was lush and inviting and huge! I immediately noticed the old-world hacienda (“large ranch”) architecture style of the buildings and was fascinated by their scope and detail. It is a true feast for the eyes.
It’s all about the details
The fascination with the property did not end at the pool or entryway either. Throughout my entire visit, I was struck by how many little, beautiful and well-thought out details there are on the property. Teak wood, wrought-iron, artisan tile work and unique art pieces trickled out in walkways, community rooms and in every little nook and cranny along the way.
Details seem to be a highlight of the Sheraton, as they also extended to the super-attentive and friendly staff. My little travel companion made many new friends along the way, and was thrilled to put his Spanish-speaking skills to good use with this friendly staff. I was happy they were nice enough to play along. 🙂
Resort activities
If the five pools or eight restaurants and lounges aren’t enough to keep you satisfied, the Cactus Spa — in combination with the Sheraton Adventure Kids’ Club — most certainly will. Imagine yourself enjoying a Vichy Shower and melt-away-the-stress massage while the kids are having a blast with awesome activities and swimming at the kids’ club. My little one enjoyed crafting Dia de los Muertos cookies and treats, as well as building his own piñata, while I was lounging in a robe sipping fruit-infused water. What a delight that was!
Another seriously awesome option for movie buffs is to have an epic experience in an EPIC-themed room. In celebration of the release of 20th Century Fox’s animated film, EPIC, Sheraton Hacienda del Mar is bringing guests a storybook adventure. Nothing like taking your family vacation up a notch with a comfortable and fun themed room. Parents can stay in the attached, non-themed room. It’s a win-win for everyone.
NOTE: The EPIC-themed room will be available through December 15, 2013, after which another movie-themed room will be available. Contact the resort for the most up-to-date option.
There are plenty more on and off-site activities for guests to enjoy. There is golfing at one of two nearby courses fun hourly activities a fitness center to work off the queso, and good old-fashioned lounging by the pool.
The rooms
So, the resort is amazing, the pools are spectacular, the kids’ area is super-fun, but you may be wondering… what about the rooms? Let me just say, when an unusual rainstorm came through and we were not able to enjoy the pools, we had the best time hanging out in our ever-so-fluffy beds, soaking in the tub and ordering super-fast room service food. Getting to snuggle with my clean love muffin with a huge array of fresh and tasty offerings? Seriously, awesome. (The view of the storm from our ocean-view balcony was pretty darn amazing, too).
The Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar resort is now my all-time favorite family-friendly destination, it is everything I imagine the perfect family vacation to be. I seriously cannot wait to experience it again!
