If you haven’t heard, I am currently living in Costa Rica. Our family moved here this past summer to fulfill a lifelong dream of living abroad. I’ve even started another website called Wanderlust Living that is chronicling all of our crazy adventures. One of our goals while here is to learn Spanish, as I believe that teaching our kids a second language will not only help them later in life but also gives them a better understanding of the world, of different cultures and more patience and tolerance.

I was sent the Early Lingo DVD set for review. Of course I thought I would have us watching them long before we moved to prepare our kids and have a jump start on the whole “learning Spanish” thing — but of course that didn’t exactly happen. But, we are watching them now and loving them! Our kids have Spanish class at school but these DVDs have been helping enhance their learning and have actually been coordinating really well with their Spanish book and workbook from the school.

The DVDs each have a theme, such as Opposites at the Beach, At the Market and Numbers and Shapes at the Park. All of them are about an hour long, the production quality is fantastic and moves along at the perfect speed. They mix animation with real-life video, which I really like. I was secretly hoping they would not be just a cartoon format.

When they are talking about things at the beach they show real life things at the beach. They also do not show or say any words in English, which is another feature I appreciated. My kids and I have been watching these on the weekends in the morning during breakfast.  We all repeat the words together, and it’s a lot of fun! My daughter and I have even made flash cards for some of the more difficult words.

The Early Lingo language DVDs come in Spanish, French, Italian, German, Chinese and English. You can begin showing these DVDs to children as young as 6 months — my kids are 7 and 9, so they are really great for any age or anyone just beginning to learn Spanish. You can watch these DVDs at home or take them on your next trip and watch them on the plane. Early Lingo is a great gift for new parents or anyone looking to teach their children a second language.

Single DVDs are $19.99
A Box Set of 6 is $99.99

Disclosure: I was sent a Spanish set for review. All my savvy thoughts and sassy opinions are my own. I share this with you because it is an awesome product and a wonderful way for children to begin learning a second language.

  2. We received a set of these too. My kids love them. The baby especially. Any time there are other kids on TV he is excited to interact. We are watching them now as we get ready for our trip to Spain! Can’t wait to hear my boys tiny voices saying “hola!”
