I am  friend of Baby Buggy, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing equipment, clothing and gear for children aged newborn-12 to families in need.  So when I heard that Delta Children the leading manufacturer of cribs was going to donate 200 cribs to Baby Buggy for Los Angels families I definitely wanted to attend and show my support.

This event also started the nationwide Safe Sleep campaign launched by Delta in partnership with K.I.D.S. The campaign aims to educate parents and caregivers of young children about safe sleeping conditions coupled with the generous donation of new cribs, which meet the latest safety standards.  The donations will go to families in need of safe cribs in the Los Angeles area. K.I.D.S, will implement the distribution of the cribs on behalf of Delta and Baby Buggy.

The event was held at The Children’s Institute, which also peaked my interest, because I was not familiar with this place or organization.  The Children’s Institute serves at-risk children, youth and families throughout Los Angeles County.  They have three campuses but the newest is the Otis Booth campus just west of downtown Los Angeles, near Echo Park.  It is a beautiful facility that has offers family support services and a full range of youth development services.

Joseph Shamie and his wife was there to present these families with this generous donation and meet some of the families receiving the cribs.  As well as a few celebrity friends of Baby Buggy, Samantha Harris and Chudny Ross.

“Delta Children was founded by my father, Louis Shamie. We are carrying on the tradition started by him to give and to give generously. These cribs will help less fortunate parents provide safe environments, while educating them on the importance of safe sleep,” said Joseph Shamie.

“The safety and comfort of a reliable crib is extremely important to any parent with young children,”  “Delta’s donation will help reassure thousands of parents in our network that their children are sleeping in the safest environment they can provide.”  said Jessica Seinfeld, founder of Baby Buggy.

K.I.D.S. was founded in 1985 with the mission of providing new kid-essentials to children, newborn to 18, who have been impacted by poverty and tragedy as an outcome of homelessness, military deployment or incarceration of a parent, domestic abuse, major illness or natural disaster.

Charity Navigator continues to award K.I.D.S. its highest four-star rating and The Chronicle of Philanthropy places K.I.D.S. among the top 2 percent of non-profits in the U.S. Since its inception, the charity has provided almost 1 billion dollars of new products to help nearly 70 million children. With a network of almost 1,000 local partner agencies located in all 50 states and a overhead of less than 3%, K.I.D.S. is able to effectively and efficiently ship and deliver products directly to impoverished children when and where they need it.
