I’ve been reviewing strollers and other baby products for about three years now and Cybex is a company I’ve only recently heard of. Headquartered in Germany, Cybex designs and engineers strollers, car seats, and baby carriers/wraps. If you like European style, then listen up while I let you know about two of their latest products.
The new Cybex Aton 2 Infant Car Seat

The Cybex Aton 2 represents a new generation in infant car seat safety, and is a winner of JPMA’s Innovation Award 2012. This car seat is designed for babies 4 to 35 pounds and up to 30 inches tall.
The Aton 2 has two new safety innovations that have been standard in Europe that is unique in the American market, Load Leg Technology and Linear Side Impact Protection (LSP). These are car seat features I’ve never seen before.
Look at the picture on the right and you’ll see a strange long leg coming down from the front of the base. It is an adjustable load leg that goes down onto the floor of your vehicle. It provides additional stability and prevents a pitching forward during a crash, reducing the chances of spinal cord injury. Because the seat isn’t forward pitching, rebound motion is also dramatically reduced.
The Load Leg absorbs 50% of the crash forces, redistributing this energy back into the floor of the car during impact, keeping your baby safer and more stable.
The next innovation on the new Cybex Aton 2 car seat is what is called LSP, or Linear Side-Impact-Protection. These small grey devices at the base of each side of the handle pop out sideways and if you are in a side-impact crash, they transfer the initial impact to the car seat shell faster, keeping baby safer. The optimized shell, along with the new LSP devices, channel this crash energy away from your baby faster, keeping your child safer.
Lightweight at just under nine pounds, the Aton 2 is compatible with all Cybex strollers and with other brands that use Maxi Cosi car seat adapters. They come in five fashion-forward colors and retails for $300.
The Cybex Twinyx Double Umbrella Stroller

Last year Cybex released their double umbrella stroller, the Twinyx. It is based on their popular single, the Onyx, hence the Twinyx name. At 30-inches wide, it easily fits through standard doorways and weighs only 29 pounds. The Twinyx can hold up to 77 pounds total.
Like the Onyx, the Twinyx has extra large sun canopies with UV50+ protection from harmful rays. They adjust up and down the frame, allowing lots of growth room for your children. It has an adjustable leg rest and bumper bars on each seat. Your child is comfortable with a four-position one-handed seat recline. The recline does not go completely flat, so your baby should be at least 3 months old.
The individual harnesses are rather unique because they are designed much like a car seat in that you pull out the shoulder straps to put your child in, then tighten the straps by pulling the middle strap. Very convenient and such an optimal fit!
With 5.5-inch wheels and rear suspension, the Twinyx can handle gentle terrain like park grass and bumpy sidewalks, but this stroller is engineered for urban use.
The Twinyx comes in Pure Black or Chili Pepper with red accents and retails for $450 and is considered one of the better double umbrella strollers on the market.
