One of the perks of living in Los Angeles with kids is that there is always something to do! Most people might think that big cities are not too kid friendly, but it is quite the opposite.
One of the special things we do with the kids is take them into Hollywood and see movies at the El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Blvd. The movies may cost a bit more, but the tickets include popcorn and a drink and the experience is well worth it. Considering what the prices for actually going to Disneyland are, this is quite a bargain! Before the movie begins, there is a special Disney Perfomance, or a specific character that makes an appearance. We just saw Snow White and McKenna wanted to wear her costume, and so did a lot of other little girls!

Hollywood Blvd is always full of costumed characters, on this last trip we saw, Mickey Mouse, Spiderman, Jasmine, Cinderella, and the Hulk. If you stop to take a picture they do expect a tip, but for the most part the kids just like saying hi or giving a high five. After the show you can grab lunch or ice cream at the Disney Soda Fountain and Studio Store. The Kodak Theatre, and Mann Chinese theatres are just across the street and have plenty of places to shop and eat as well. You also have a great opportunity to take a picture of the Hollywood sign, they specifically designed the building for this famous photo opp! On HOT days and if you bring a change of clothes, the kids can run through the exploding Water Pad right in the middle of it all.
Before we had kids my husband and I had thought we had seen all we had wanted to see of Hollywood. We had no idea there was a G-rated version! It is refreshing and fun to see this side of Hollywood (during the day) and through the eyes of our kids. I don’t think they really even understand what “Hollywood” is but they think it’s something special! And well… it kind of is!

I lived in LA for 5 years and saw my share of Hollywood! I even lived right down the street from it for several years. It is great fun, even the night version!! I would love to take my kids one day.
We went to see Narnia at the El Capitan and it was wonderful! As we waited in line to get in it started to “snow” on us! And it “snowed” again when we were inside. I think they were soap bubbles because they glowed with the black lights. It was a great experence and I will always remember it.
