ROARRetreatAttendees2014

The ROAR Retreat is happening this week and I could not be more anxious, scared and excited!! My partner Nadia Carriere and I created the ROAR Retreat out of pure selfishness really.  All we really wanted to do was get a bunch of smart ladies together for a few days so we could discuss at length some of the things talked about in our professional Facebook groups. Sure, some of that is blogging, social media but to also share information, strategize, share tools, give advice and help one another with the individual challenges we face as women.

Whether it’s running a small businesses, working for ourselves, freelance writing, or building a brand. The ROAR attendees all have a wide range of knowledge and come from a variety of backgrounds but the common thread is that we are motivated, striving for more and looking for support.

We are having it in Costa Rica because we want the ROAR Retreat to be in an out of the box setting, and I moved to Costa Rica a year ago, so why not bring them all here!  Since living here, I have made some connections and relationships with some local businesses and so I could be on the ground to make it happen. The ROAR Retreat will be held at the beautiful Westin Conchal, which sits on one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica.

ROARSpeakers

ROAR Retreat Speakers

Our idea was to have three speakers, one a day and then to have continued conversations around each topic. Our Speakers include Alison Kramer, author and content creator of UnMarketing, Emily Meyer, Chief Creative officer of Tea Collection and Lavinia Spalding, award winning travel writer and editor. The first day will be focused on social media and marketing. The second day, Emily will talk about entrepreneurship and small business and last but not least, Lavinia Spalding will be talking about the art of travel and writing. We also have a Return to You workshop being held by Jennie Baird and Invisalign will be sponsoring a photography workshop with Aimee Giese.

ROARSponsors

ROAR Retreat Sponsors

The sponsors that have come on board to help support ROAR get what we were trying to do and so I cannot say enough about them. They wanted to have a real authentic connection with these women and start a relationship with them. Of course we did not want a room full of sponsors handing out swag, nor did we accept any sponsor that just wanted to “send product” only. These women do not need free product, they can buy their own toothpaste and sunscreen thank you very much. Invisalign has two women attending ROAR that are on their Mom Advisory Board and they will be representing the brand and speaking to us about their experience with Invisalign. Minted and barkTHINS saw this as a creative opportunity and wanted to be apart of it the best way that fit their brands.  We also have SheEO that is sponsoring a dinner and doing a small activity with the attendees on site.

ROAR is not just about blogging and social media, it’s just not that black and white. ROAR is for women who are looking to either harness or find their purpose, collaborate creatively, start something new, expand their connections, discover something new, set some goals or maybe let something go.

I want to say THANK YOU to all 30 women heading to Costa Rica today, they put trust in me and Nadia to get on a plane and make time for this. This was not them getting the fancy invitation from the PR company or luxury resort, they chose to attend ROAR and we do not take that lightly.
