My Dad – heading onto his next journey

In Uncategorized by savvysassymoms71 Comments

I’m afraid I’m the bearer of very bad news. (This is Andrea’s Husband writing this…)

Andrea’s father, Bill, is currently in very critical condition. He rode his motorcycle across old route 66 from Minnesota to California… Long story short – he was on his way back home and yesterday a car rear-ended him in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

He’s currently in a hospital in Oklahoma City. His wife, Linda; sister, Julia; and children Brent & Andrea are there with him. If you’re a close friend and you haven’t heard yet, I apologize for you finding out this way. It’s been an emotional day for everyone. Bill is in very critical condition.

A lot of people have asked and offered to help. The best way to help right this second is to send positive thoughts, prayers, healing energy, or whatever works with your belief system. Pray for him to heal, send thoughts of him waking up and recovering, whatever makes sense to you.

Here’s a website where a some updates are — it’d be awesome if you could sign the guest book – the family will see it there for sure: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/billnagengast/

UPDATE 5/5/11 8:37 PM (from the CaringBridge Site, probably written by Bill’s wife): I wanted to thank everyone for all your prayers and thoughts.  We spoke with the Neuro surgeon today along with the trauma team that is in charge of Bill’s case.  We also had a 2nd opinion from another Neuro surgeon.  We were told that his brain trauma was very severe and that we have to make a decsion as to how we want his care handled.  As a family we have agreed to put a DNR at this point.  Bill wanted to have a full quality of life, according to the Dr’s this would not be possible.  We as a family are going to follow Bill’s wishes and will not let him live his life this way.  From the family we thank all of you for your support.  We will update again when we have more information.

UPDATE 5/6/11 5:45pm CST The Nagengast/Fellman and Happel families want to let everyone know that Bill is on his next journey to a new experience.  We thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers.  Bill passed at 4PM today.  We will be bringing him home on Sunday.  Once we are home we will update the journal to let everyone know when the reviewal will be. We shoud know after Monday. The Nagengast’s/Fellman & Happel’s (from CaringBridge)

From Harris: Andrea and I have spoken today. It’s obviously been the worst day of her life. Her and her brother, Brent, with driving back to Minnesota from the hospital to “finish the trip” for their dad. For everyone giving us all well wishes – with every message we read (when able to) we feel your love, we appreciate your love, and it’s wonderful having such wonderful people in our lives. I’ll be flying into Minnesota with the kiddies on Wednesday of next week. “Every man dies, not every man really lives.” Bill lived life to the fullest till the very end.
