Hilary MacMillan’s Collection is For The Bold, Brave and Confident Women!

I was anxious with anticipation for the Hilary MacMillan show at this year’s Toronto Fashion Week. Over the past two years, MacMillan’s collections always made my favourites list. She intinctively sets the trends for the following season. This year’s venue was the Royal Ontario Museum, a building with a funky, geode-like architecture. It encapsulates and preserves the history of the last million or so years. The ROM has also dipped their toes into the fashion world in recent years, in the past, hosting exhibitions of the collections of Christian Dior and Iris van Herpen. With venue in mind, tonight really did make fashion history. Hilary MacMillan’s TFW show is in step with street style’s, don’t mess with me vibe, We Are Bold. We are Brave. We are Confident!

Can I wear this right now?

I was absolutely blown away by this year’s collection. All the pieces are so wearable, but with an air of chicness about them. I almost considered going backstage to ask if I could borrow an outfit to wear to the next show. The chic all black look with the shiny puffer tied around the waist is something that I will be emulating immediately.

Don’t mess with me Confident

From head to toe plaid to corduroy full sets and PVC coats effortlessly slung over vegan pants, these are the trends that you are about to see next season. Instead of waiting around for the 90’s fashion to come back into play, Hilary MacMillan showcases statement-making plaid on plaid full outfits. This is sheer brilliance! MacMillan’s tartan ensembles have an effortless finesse, showing that if done right, plaid on plaid can be sophisticated and wearable.

Street style that doubles as work wear

For the fashion obsessed, MacMillan gives us a head start by putting together some street style looks that we can draw from in our work outfit inspiration. With Tailored suits paired with patent vegan-leather fitted turtlenecks, we catch a glimpse of a trend that we want in on and gives us that edgy, cool vibe we are looking for and didn’t know existed.

MacMillian’s show is bold and gives us the opportunity to be brave in our fashion choices. With this new sense of bravery, we can dabble in power suits that are brighter, shinier, patterned and scream we are self-confident. She set’s a cool back to work mood for those of us that feel like we never have anything to wear.
