8 Awesome Places for Families to use Marriott Points

In Travel by Rebecca SpearLeave a Comment

Have you built up quite a few Marriott or SPG points (now called Marriott Bonvoy)? Maybe you get them from your AMEX Card or maybe work travel? Perhaps Spring Break is a good time to make use of those points; don’t let them go to waste! I’m a huge advocate for making family vacations happen. They don’t have to be over the top! Getting away from the daily grind and reconnecting as a family is so important.

Our American Express/Marriott Bonvoy points have allowed us to take some memorable family trips. With a 3 to 1 transfer rate for most airline frequent flyer programs (with a 5,000 mile bonus for every 60,000 miles your transfer) you can get some great deals on flights. It also probably goes without saying that the hotel options are plentiful, but the more we’ve travelled and researched trips for the family, the more excited I am about the properties. We’ve rounded up 8 of the awesome properties for families below:

Disney

Did you know that you can use your points at The Walt Disney Swan and Dolphin Resort? While not technically considered an on-property resort, these sister resorts are situated at the Boardwalk area within walking distance of Epcot and Hollywood Studios and allows you most all of the privileges including fast-pass and extra magic hours. They also offer fun family activities like swim-in movies and offer camp Dolphin in the evenings for kids ages 4-12 which is complimentary for 2 hrs for parents eating at the hotel restaurants, otherwise $10/hr.  If you don’t care about being in the heart of the action, there are plenty of other options close by. Properties like Marriott Harbour Lake or Sheraton Vistana offer more spacious room setups with kitchens and are actually less points per night.

Atlantis

I was surprised and so excited to find out that this iconic Bahamas resort is in the Marriott family. They offer several different options for accommodations at a variety of price/point levels. Many families find the Reef at Atlantis appealing with condo style accommodations equipped with a kitchen.

Waterline Marina Resort & Beach Club

Known for it’s beaches and quaint/laid back feel, Anna Maria Island is a great spot for families to explore. Accommodations on Anna Maria are mostly smaller owner operated properties which is part of it’s “Old Florida” charm. The Waterline is a brand new addition to the Autograph Collection, and one of the only resorts on the island. All accommodations at the resort are two-bedroom condo style units with full kitchens which ideal for families. For 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night, this spot is a great find.

Westin Grand Cayman

Full disclosure, we have not ventured out of the U.S. with our kiddos, but  definitely plan to, and we’ve added the Westin Grand Cayman to our list. This property has a great location on Seven Mile Beach, and tons of amenities including a great Westin Kids Club that offers drop-off programs for kids 4+.

The Ritz Carlton Amelia Island

The Ritz Cartlon Amelia Island is an amazing property for any occasion, but they have made it easy to enjoy this sanctuary with kids. They really have something for everyone with an amazing spa, pristine beaches, renowned golf course, extensive dining options, game rooms, indoor and outdoor pools and so much more. Ritz Kids offers so much for youngsters including story time, pirate tuck-ins, treasure huts and other drop off programs.

Courtyard Marriott Marathon

Courtyard is considered more of a value brand, and their better price point works for many families. We appreciate that they often offer more space and free and easy breakfast options. The Courtyard in Marathon is great property and a perfect location for exploring the Florida Keys. The room set-up with a little kitchenette is also ideal for families.

The Westin Hilton Head Resort & Spa

Hilton Head is a popular family travel destination for good reason, and the Westin truly has something for everyone. Parents Magazine has named it one of the best family resorts in U.S. on multiple occasions. The resort amenities abound, including their Westin Kids Camp, Junior Golf program, three pools, babysitting services, easy beach access and so much more.

JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort

An ideal mix of luxury and family fun, this resort boast an amazing beachfront location, great pools, memorable dining options, waterspouts and excursions and much more. Amenities like the supervised kids camp and numerous kid-focused activities make it an awesome spot for a family beach vacation. Families love the dive-in movies!
