10 amazing grilled cheese sandwiches

In Kids by savvysassymoms6 Comments

Since I have been becoming more cheese savvy thanks to Cracker Barrel Cheese and my latest food tour of Chicago it’s no surprise that I want to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day. Yes, even cheese has a holiday. In fact, some people consider the entire month of April national grilled cheese month, but let’s not get carried away.

National Grilled Cheese Day is April 12th

In honor of this holiday, I’d thought I would celebrate by making the kids some fancy grilled cheese and search for the most mouth watering grilled cheese sandwich recipes. I proudly accomplished both of these things, but one was much prettier than the other.

I am not a food blogger and I hardly cook (I won’t even pretend to be one and spare you from all the grilled cheese madness that happened in my kitchen last night), but I did manage to make both of my kids a delicious grilled cheese sandwich that got 3 1/2 thumbs up. {little critics}

Not exactly a work of art, but If you’re a mom, chances are you can make a basic grilled cheese sandwich. It’s probably the second most popular kids sandwich, right after peanut butter and jelly. So you’ve made a million of them. A kids grilled cheese sandwich doesn’t really need any fancy ingredients, but it’s a great opportunity to sneak in some extra vegetables or protein.

When making grilled cheese for the kids I just used a simple frying pan but you can also use a Panini press, sandwich maker or flat griddle. Cheddar cheese is always the classic choice for both kids and adults but there are many flavors of cheddar which will make each sandwich taste a little different.  Cracker Barrel Cheese has many cheddar options from sharp, extra sharp, aged reserved, and Vermont sharp white cheddar.  You can even mix two cheddars for a double cheese combination or use the Cracker Barrel jalapeno or mediterranean herb to spice it up a bit.

While I was cruising Pinterest in search of a fun sandwich to make for the kids, I stumbled upon a variety of ridiculous grilled cheeses sandwiches using all kinds of different cheese. The creativity was endless and I spent way too much time looking at all this cheese melting goodness.  Soon I forgot about the kids and started gathering ones that I want to EAT.
