Being a mother in the 21st Century is different than it used to be. Even my own mother is constantly telling me how things have changed! I like to think of myself as somewhat of a YEMM, a Young Educated Millennial Mom… here’s why:
The YEMM: does all of her shopping online after her kids are asleep.
The YEMM: is always keeping up-to-date on the latest fashion trends for children and always thinks about how her kids will look back at pictures, years from now, and ask “Mom, what were you thinking?” (But, she does it anyways!)
The YEMM: takes so many photos of her kids that her computer isn’t big enough to store more than a year’s worth.
The YEMM: creates an Instagram account dedicated to posting a photo of her children, everyday, for 365 days… and then prints them all in photo books.
The YEMM: is a serious muti-tasker. She is working, seeing friends, grocery shopping, checking all of her errands off her list, running around with her kids, and driving carpool. And , somehow, she also finds time to blog.
The YEMM: appreciates alone time with her husband and forces herself out of the house to enjoy date night, even though she hasn’t slept in weeks due to her daughter’s sleep regression.
The YEMM: can’t go to sleep without checking social media… and posts way too many pictures of her kids.
The YEMM: is technologically savvy (and so are her children).
The YEMM: goes to the gym at 6 a.m. so that she can workout and still be home when the kids wake up.
The YEMM: is always up for travel and she takes her kids with her.
The YEMM: makes all of her own baby (and big kid) food.
The YEMM: always finds fun ways to be with her kids and takes them all over the city.
The YEMM: never stops. Each day is planned to the minute and even the smallest change puts her behind schedule. There is never extra time to spare!
The YEMM: prioritizes her family and being present in her children’s daily lives. Being a mom is her most important job… and it always will be.
