As the seasons change, we always feel a pang of sadness as we feel like we need to put away some of our favorite pieces until the season comes around again. Instead of longing for our spring pieces, we incorporate them into our fall wardrobe and give them an extended life. With the indecisive weather this Spring season, we struggled with what to wear each day and really had to learn to be creative. Some days we felt like we were in the desert and others, in the arctic. With some strategic Transitional Styling using our existing wardrobe we were able to create an enviable closet that can take us year round, from summer to winter, and then back. By keeping the staples in our closets neutral and minimalistic, we are able to repurpose our clothes and get more mileage from what is already there.
How you can have the best wardrobe without a complete overhaul
Since Spring seemed to go on forever, we had the layering thing pretty much mastered. Once it turned a little warmer, we were able to roll up our sleeves during the blazing afternoon sun and add a cute sweater for the chilly mornings and cooler evenings. We kept all of our basics neutral and easy. This is definitely helpful with transitioning through the seasons.
Build on your existing wardrobe
Did we say Summer? Summer, what Summer? Fall is just waiting sneakily around the corner! The seasons seem to happen so quickly and change at the bat of an eyelash, we are pretty conscious about what we are investing in. We want key items that can multitask and that will last in our wardrobes. As Savvy Sassy Moms, we want our clothes to fit with our mom-life with comfort and ease and transition through the seasons. So we are building a wardrobe that will stick around for a while.
Strategic Transitional Styling that will keep your wardrobe fresh
Once you have the fundamental pieces that can be worn on their own or layered for the months ahead, you can start building up your wardrobe with patterns and color. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your style either. But keep your investment pieces neutral. For example, a black trouser will take you through the seasons while a coral pant may only last you through the summer.
Keeping your look easy and fashionable
If you like trendy pieces, Fall is the perfect time to get your spots on by adding a leopard coat or snake print. We are suckers for the latest fashionable pieces-personal preference aside, the animal print blazer and coat will keep you on trend and will be perfect for your transitional dressing this season. Lighter than your puffy winter coat, but warm enough to see you through Fall evenings in style.
Layering is a key element when strategic transitional styling
Layering your look is an important part of the temperamental temperatures. So you may as well layer your camis, tees and then add a great knit or blazer on top. That way, when you go for dinner and there is a chill at the restaurant, you can keep your blazer close by in case you need to throw it on. Once you have a cocktail or dig into your juicy steak dinner, the blazer may need to come off. This is all part of your style and your look but you are always appropriately dressed when layered.
