Make Your Home Office Somewhere You Want To Be

The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic has changed the face of office working, perhaps for good. While before, there was some distrust and uncertainty around the practice of remote working or working from home, it is now seen as the norm, with more people than ever working from the comfort of their own home, when their job allows them to do so. Employers now see the benefits of the practice and so trust their employees more.

But how do you make your home office somewhere that you actually want to work? Here, we look at some of the things that you can do to make it a productive, comfortable, and pleasant space to be.

Make sure that your desk and chair are comfortable

Your desk and chair HAVE to be comfortable. If they are not, you are going to be sore and achy within a short time and either rush through (and potentially make mistakes) or you are going to slack off and not sit there at all. Opt for a desk that is a comfortable height and large enough for you to spread your things out and work without your arms hanging off the edge. Make sure your chair is ergonomically designed so that it supports your back, neck, and arms, and that it is at the right height for your desk.

Add some personal touches

Whether it is candles (safely) dotted around, pictures of your loved ones on your desk, fancy pen holders, or something beautiful, spiritual, and reflective from House of Joppa, make sure your home office reflects who you are as a person. Of course, if you have to engage in video calls with clients you may need to ensure there is nothing too personal in the space that they can see but even the most professionally cool of people recognize that it is your home – and who does not enjoy seeing a little bit of someones personality?

Think about the color

Most office spaces are painted a neutral – and often very harsh white. This is because it is cheaper, easy to clean, and bland as to not cause disagreements between staff. However, it is also far from being a color that encourages positivity, creativity and inspiration. The good thing about working from home is that the space is yours and yours alone, so you can decorate it how you see fit. Try to avoid bright and brash colors and instead stick to muted colors, pastels, or deep rich shades.

Make sure there is plenty of natural light

Natural light is one of the best things that you can do to make your office somewhere you want to be. Try to put your desk or working area near a window and open up blinds or curtains to allow maximum light to enter. If that is not possible, look at investing in light bulbs that mimic natural light – they aren’t quite as effective, but better than nothing if the real thing is not an option.

When your home office is somewhere you want to be, you will work harder and be more creative and productive. Follow these tips for a place that you can’t wait to get into in the mornings.
