Scribble Press

Last weekend we were invited to create a complimentary book at  Scribble Press. I jumped at the invitation because I knew it would be a great way to spend a saturday afternoon, some good ol’ family bonding!  So the Fab Four Fellman’s headed to Santa Monica, because that is where the first Scribble Press is located!

What is Scribble Press you might ask? Well, it is the first ever, Create your own Book store! The store is a fully equipped art studio complete with printing and bookbinding on site.  “Come with your story, and leave with a book!”

So who came up with this Brilliant idea?  Two MOMS of course!  Darcy Pollack and Anna Barber. They both grew up writing and creating their own books, and now as mothers they wanted to create a place where kids and families could write, illustrate their own books.

So that is just what we did! We arrived and instantly saw a wall full of markers, books, art supplies, drawing tables, and even a build and decorate your own house! We were given a tour by the manager and directions on how to begin.

We selected the medium size book,  grabbed some markers, and stencils and we were on our way. My daughter decided to call the title of her book McKenna’s Amazing Race (that is her favorite show to watch with me) so we began to draw and create a book of places she has traveled.

A birthday party was going on that day, the back of the studio has a VIP lounge for these types of special events.  What a creative, smart and original party idea! Because really, do we ned to jump in anymore bouncers or bring home a treat bag of plastic crap?  Let your kids use their brain and create something valuable to take home.
They can still have their cake and eat it too!

They will also create a book of your children’s artwork!  You can drop off those bags or boxes of art projects that you have no idea what to do with (but feel guilty about tossing in the garbage).  They will scan in all that priceless work of art and create one hard bound book of it all.  They even custom every book with a Photo of your little Monet!

I have to say this is one of the better activities we have done on a Saturday afternoon.  It is truly a One-of- a- Kind!  No one else in the world can tell her story!
