Part of me feels like my kids have a lifetime until college. After all, I still make their meals and find dolls and LEGO pieces strewn all over the house. Truthfully, though, I know we have less time between today and their first days of college than it seems. And that knowledge feels intimidating at times as we watch higher education costs climb. Investment ideas and savings plans abound, but we’re not exactly sure of the best method to help them pay for their educations.

Together, Rosie and Garianne plan to help moms tackle the seemingly insurmountable task of paying for college.

  • What is a 529 plan
  • How do they work
  • Things to consider when selecting a 529 plan

Tune in on May 18 to have some of your college savings questions answered in a simple, fun, actionable webinar.

529 Day match promotion will help families save for college

In addition to the informational webinar, ScholarShare plans to help families add a little extra money to their college savings. For many families, the sheer cost of saving for college, in the midst of other household expenses, seems prohibitive. ScholarShare wants to do its part to help families, so they’re offering a special 529 Day match promotion.

To be eligible for the matching promotion, families must open a new ScholarShare account between Wednesday, May 24 and 26, 2017 with a minimum $50 deposit – to be contributed and invested at the time the new account is opened – and sign up for a $25 Automatic Contribution Plan for six months.

The matching deposit of $50 will be made to the eligible ScholarShare account on or before 11:59 p.m. PST on January 30, 2018. There is a limit of one matching deposit per new ScholarShare account opened for each new beneficiary. Visit ScholarShare for more information and complete terms and conditions.

California families can celebrate with additional 529 Day events

During mid-May, you can visit various California locations to learn more about the matching promotion. You can also take photos at an on-site photo booth. For more information, please visit the ScholarShare website. Events will take place as follows:

  • LA Zoo, Los Angeles – Saturday, May 13
  • New Children’s Museum, San Diego – Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21
  • Oakland Zoo, Oakland – Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21
When did your family start planning for your children’s college funds?
