Watch the Fed Up Movie Trailer

Last night instead of cruising Pinterest, pretend shopping on Nordstrom.com or watching another mind-blowing episode of Revenge, as in mind-blowingly stupid. I did something better with my time and watched the Fed Up Movie. This is a new documentary about why Americans are so FAT. Yup, we’re fat, very fat. This is not breaking news, we all know that the obesity rate in America is out of control. But who’s fault is it?  From Katie Couric, Laurie David (Oscar winning producer of AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH) and director Stephanie Soechtig The Fed Up Movie is the movie the food industry does not want you to see.

Now. I watched it and I was necessarily shocked by this movie, because I already know how bad all this processed food and sugar is for me.  We all KNOW.  We try to eat healthy at our house and my husband actually can’t stand it when I buy “crap” for the kids, because he ends up eating it. I’m guilty of eating some of the cereals shown in this film and buying those “healthy” boxed granola bars and I am not going to lie, I love a nice cold Diet Coke from time to time. Am I addicted? No. Am I fat or obese, not even close. Are my kids obese, no. But if sugar is addictive as cocaine and alcohol then we need to understand that and be more sensitive to people that are addicted to sugar. No wait. “sensitive” Did I just say we should be sensitive. This shit is killing us and I want you to be sensitive.  Hmm, that’s messed up.

“We are producing the deadliest diet and exporting it to other countries”  #FedUpMovie

The statistics in the film are astounding, but I was left feeling frustrated and that nothing is being done. Even Michelle Obama was trying to make change and put her best foot forward, but then her message had to be edited and re-worked as to not upset the big food industries.

This is when I “throw my hands up in the air” and move on and live my life as best as I can. It’s still such a blame game and a failing health system that has me confused, which I am sure the entire point!  I actually feel stuck in the middle. After watching the film, I jokingly said to my husband “It’s all the marketers fault”, “those damn marketers ruin everything”. Partly because he’s a marketer and in a way so am I. I blog about products, mostly baby and juvenile products, ones with no added sugar. But I may have done a sponsored post or have been apart of campaign for some of these brands or products, so who am I to point fingers. Some of these brands are all over the Mom blogs.

“60,000 food products in America and 80% have added sugar.” #FedUpMovie

I will say that the school lunch situation is disgusting and that “pizza is considered a vegetable” is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. More mind-blowingly stupid then Revenge.

Disclosure:  This is not sponsored post in any way.  I was not sent on some fancy press trip, given an all natural fresh fruit basket or a new car to drive for a week.  I was given access to watch the movie  before it’s release via my laptop.  I share this with you because I think it’s important and everyone should see this movie.

  1. All true, and it’s sick. I wish more people would open their eyes. (she says, as she nibbles on BBQ potato chips… sigh… ) I know I have gotten lax, but the amount of sugar we consume in this country, AND GIVE TO OUR KIDS, is criminal, plain and simple.

  2. How about some accountability? Quit blaming anyone else but yourselves. Wanna lose weight? Do what I did. East less, move more. I lost 70 lbs. I don’t blame anyone but myself for when I was overweight. Even with the extra weight, I was still in great shape. I exercised daily. But I ate too much. I started eating less and the weight came off. Don’t need the government or a stupid movie to tell me what to do or not do. This society always wants to blame someone else. If you eat too much, it’s your fault. If you smoke and are in bad health, don’t blame tobacco companies, blame yourself for stupid choices.
