Why you should opt for a romance novel

In Style by Lisa3 Comments

To the public, I’m a mom-on-the-go, packing school lunches, booking appointments, and attempting to pull it off effortlessly. You might think, how am I still sane? With a life as busy as any mom’s, I juggle a lot of things to keep it together.

But I have a secret.

After a long day, I grab a new book and a hot cup of tea — the perfect way to relax. My friends will tell you, I ask for more reading suggestions than anyone else, and I love to suggest my favorite books. I’ve been in too many book clubs to count. I absolutely love reading a good story, whether it is a non-fiction or a children’s book. I love good novels with strong characters and story lines. You probably don’t know how much I enjoy romance novels. I often opt for a good romance novel whenever I have a spare moment in my day.

I started reading Harlequin novels when my children started sleeping through the night. Once I started reading romance novels, it was hard to stop. I often look for novels that encapsulate strong storylines that are simple, because they keep me consistently engaged. I am always reaching for Harlequin novels whether I am waiting in my car at the carpool line-up or after saying goodnight to my children.

Harlequin Novels

When I picked up the Harlequin novel, Finding Our Forever by Brenda Novak, I was excited to follow Cora, a 28-year-old educator’s journey. After hiring a private investigator in search of her birth mother, Cora decides on a career at an all boys school run by her biological mother. The addition of a handsome stranger acts as a catalyst of events. This introduction to a new man catapults the reader on a journey of romance. The characters are strong, educated and independent. I always end up falling in love with their love.

Harlequin novels are always different, so the intended audience varies and so do the story lines. There are so many options to choose from, allowing you to be taken on a new adventure each time you read a story. This is what I explained to Jenna who was not as avid of a romance novel reader as I am. I encouraged her to pick up a Harlequin novel to take with her on vacation.

Jenna trusted my insight and read Love, Special Delivery, which featured two central characters that any mom can relate to. The protagonists are family centered and protective, qualities that are near and dear to Jenna’s heart.

Ben is a third generation fireman, while Mandy has returned to town to assume the role of postmaster, a role which formerly belonged to her grandfather. Though their first impressions of one another are not ideal, it is clear that they are more similar, as they begin to grow on one another.

Jenna shared that she was swept away in each of their individual narratives, knowing Ben and Mandy were destined to fall in love.

As a romance reader, I looooooooove love. These easy-to-read stories where fantasy enables escapism gives moms a short opportunity to take a break from their hectic schedules. Harlequin is like a form of mediation. I find that once I have my fix, I can refocus on my real life. Reading helps me escape. I travel to fascinating places, learn new languages, and explore different cultures and history.

I constantly tell my children to read what makes them happy. Parents know reading offers intellectual perks, enhances critical thinking and improves writing skills. The pleasures of reading material of interest enhances engagement and the love of reading. So if you are asking me why I opt for romance novels? Harlequin novels transport you to another realm all while stimulating your brain. When you read, you maintain your concentration, which we all find challenging sometimes, amiright? Harlequin perfectly blends romance and mystery to whisk you away to another place and time.
