When I was a young girl, I remember finding out that my uncle was 27 years old and thinking,
“Geez, he’s SO old!”
Now I sit here in all my thirty-one years of wisdom and I have had an Oprah, “Ah-ha!” moment. And this is the conclusion I’ve come to:
We all get better with age.
When I was fifteen, I was an insecure girl who worried so much what others thought. I wasn’t comfortable in my own skin and I was consumed by the thought of how on earth I would make it in the scary adult world on my own.
Now that I am a seasoned adult, I realize that getting older is actually not so bad.
I know myself much better now and I actually feel pretty and smart most days.
That’s right I actually said out loud that I’m pretty and I’m smart. Additionally, I’m patting myself on the back for a job well done in the growing up department.
And you should do the same.
Sure, we have all made mistakes in life, we’ve had years where we didn’t take care of ourselves as well as we should and we may have had to live through unimaginable circumstances. But we have found our way through those things (or we will eventually) and we should be proud of that.
As we get older, we learn just how resilient we are and we start to gain a sense of self that we never knew we had. We figure out what matters to us, what warrants our time and attention and who should be allowed to take up residence in our lives.
Getting older doesn’t have to mean resolve to sitting in the rocking chair and doing nothing.
Unless of course that’s your idea of bliss as you age – then go for it!
But, if you think it’s too late to make new goals, too late to take care of your body, too late to turn over a new leaf or to let that toxic friendship or relationship go by the wayside, you are wrong.
The beauty of age is wisdom.
We have the wisdom to learn from our mistakes. We have the wisdom to appreciate ourselves and embrace the life experiences that have made us who we are.
So take heart Savvy Sassy Moms – our age gains us wisdom. And in my case – it also gained me better hair, straight teeth, contacts and fashion sense.
We should all embrace our age, strive to learn more, set new goals and believe that it’s never too late to reach those goals. We should look in the mirror and see the beauty within as well as out. We should give credit where credit is due.
Age isn’t a means to an end, it’s a reminder that life is precious, life passes in an instant and that we should live each day at our best whenever possible.
Embrace your wisdom and lessons learned because we all get better with age.

Fantastic post! “Age isn’t a means to an end, it’s a reminder that life is precious, life passes in an instant and that we should live each day at our best whenever possible.”– Love that!! Thanks so much for sharing!
What Sara said.
You’re right. Sometimes it’s easier to see this older beauty in someone else.
But I am incredibly more comfortable in my own skin, in my own soul. And I have far more capacity for love and joy. I’ve grown. And I’m grateful for every minute of it.
We are like a fine wine that way 😉
I am closing in on 35 and I don’t feel a day over 25!
I LOVE this post! Thank you for that. It’s a great reminder.
