Last week I took my kids to see Peter Pan and it was an evening of high flying fun, but only if you BELIEVE!
From the moment I stepped inside the white tent I knew that this was going to be a slightly different kind of play. The 360 theatre constructed a white circus like tent at the Orange County Perfoming Arts Center for this very unique experience and there isn’t really a bad seat in the house. The movie theatre like screen that goes around the top of the tent and above the stage makes the scene changes that much more exciting! The actors leave the stage either through secret passages within the stage or by flying up and out of sight.
Do not expect Peter Pan to be in green tights or Tinkerbell in a green glittery fairy costume, they are dressed in a little more realistic costumes but the story is just the same. Tinkerbell was very spunky and a little naughty, she provides lots of comic relief and my kids just loved the pirates and the crocodile. My favorite part was the very first group flying scene that took them and the audience high above London and off to Neverland, it was magical!
They recommend this play for ages 5 and up and I would stick to that, my son is 4 and he wanted to leave at the intermission and got pretty restless my the end of the show. The show runs for 2 hours and there is a 20 minute intermission. Before the show be sure to hit the Candy Bar it’s stocked with salt water taffy, licorice, and all kinds of gummies – the kids can fill up a small box of candy for $6 and adults have no fear because there is a full concession stand that offers popcorn, water, wine, beer and coffee.
I would definitely recommend taking the kids to experience this very unique live performance – it really is wonderful for the entire family!
