I was pretty old-fashioned when it came to baby monitors — give me something that I can hear noises and movement with, and we’re good. I scoffed a bit at video monitors, thinking they were completely unnecessary. Then I was given the Motorola Digital Video Baby Monitor, and I cannot imagine not having a video monitor to keep watch over my baby!
Baby Monitor Set Up
The set-up was incredibly easy (basically plug in, connect to your Wi-Fi and go!) and I was extremely impressed with how clear the video and sound was. I could hear every little noise Reid was making, and the 3.5″ LCD colour display’s picture was so clear that I could see his chest move up and down with each breath he took. It was extremely reassuring to know that while he was napping and I was cleaning up in the kitchen or running downstairs to throw in another load of laundry, I could take a look at the monitor and know that he was just fine. The monitor has an impressive range of up to 200 meters with an out-of-range warning, so I could even go outside in the backyard with our older daughter and be sure that I would hear Reid as soon as he began to wake up.
Motorola Baby Monitor Features
This monitor has so many features that a typical audio monitor does not. I love that it has built-in two-way communication so you’re able to speak to your baby through the monitor to soothe them while you make your way to them if you’re outside, or somewhere else in your home. It also has infrared night vision so you can keep a close eye on your baby at night without having to keep lights on. If you want a better view of your baby, the monitor’s camera can be controlled remotely to pan, tilt and zoom the image as needed. Another great feature is that you can keep watch of the temperature of baby’s room, as the monitor has a room temperature sensor which is shown on the display. All of these features work together to provide reassurance that your baby is comfortable and safe while you’re in another room.
Baby Monitor Benefits
I tend to be a bit of a worrywart when it comes to my children (I think most mothers can relate!), and the Motorola video monitor has been perfect to give me the peace of mind that Reid is safe. In the middle of the night I can wake up, pick up the monitor and be reassured that he is fine without having to get out of bed! As a sleep-deprived mother and waking up for those middle of the night nurse sessions, I like to limit the amount of time I actually spend out of bed. I can say without question that I’m convinced that a video monitor is a new baby must-have. It gives this tired (and kind of paranoid) mom the reassurance that I need so I can sleep (a little) more easily.
Disclosure: The monitor was given to me for the purpose of this review. All my savvy thoughts and sassy opinions are my own.
