I’m Bringing Sassy Back!

Yup, I am sticking up for Kate Gosselin! I haven’t bought a tabloid magazine in almost a year. I of course grab them the minute I enter the nail salon, but I have not spent money out of my own pocket for this nonsense! So when I was at the pharmacy picking up a prescription and saw this “Why Can’t a MOM have Fun?”, with Kate Gosselin looking better than ever! My knees got weak, my hands got sweaty and the tabloid’s WON!
Kate is starring in the new Dancing With the Stars that kicks off this Monday, March 22nd and I’m checking my DVR twice! Why can’t a Mom have FUN!? She has 8 kids people! She is a working MOM of eight and I would think some of the haters would respect the fact that she is providing her kids. The show tapes in LA and she has to travel every week, and some feel she shouldn’t be away from her kids, oh please! Just like many actresses that go on long extended movie shoots away from their kids, is anyone calling them bad mothers?
Like it or not she became famous and if you think you wouldn’t ride the Fame Train for a little while to put some money in the bank, then you’re lying to yourself. It’s not like she is posing for Playboy and getting drunk with the cast of Jersey Shore. She is a healthy, fit Mom learning how to Ballroom Dance! She deserves to have a little fun.
She takes care of herself, she runs 3 miles everyday, and she works to put (organic) food on the table, cooks home cooked meals for 8 kids and looks fabulous! So are we really putting down this type of MOM? I don’t think we need to be concerned about her children, they see a strong woman who got knocked down, brushed herself off and got back up again.
I watched “Jon and Kate plus Eight” a few times and I don’t presume to know everything about them, nor should anyone else. If your a Mom of 2 or 3 kids and happily married than you have no business calling this woman a BAD mother. If I had some of my darkest hours of parenting documeneted and broadcasted to the world I’m sure some of you would have called child services. Motherhood isn’t pretty and perfection doesn’t exsist so get off Kate’s (insert F bomb) back! You go get that Mirror Ball Trophy girl, I’ll be rooting for you all the way!

You put this into perspective for me… you’re right, as much as there are haters, look at her cooking meals for her kids – 8 of them. She is fit and looks great! Not all marriages end up as happily ever after and we don’t know all the behind the scenes real-life details, nor should we. She will be fun to watch this season for sure! Go Kate!

Not that I am a particular fan of Kate’s, but she looks great and deserves the opportunity to dance just like anyone else!
And you are so right about the fact that we have all been guilty of having moments of bad parenting – just maybe not broadcast for all the world to see. thank god for that!!

My question is: do these Kate-haters judge the fathers who go on DWTS for not seeing their kids during the runtime of the show??? Did they judge Jenny Garth? She has kids too. Did they judge the hot guy from Sex and the City? He has kids too!
It’s just so hypocritical to judge Kate when everyone else gets a free pass. I think she looks great and I can’t wait to watch tonight!

Could not agree more, though not surprising as I’ve been on Team Kate from the beginning.
Having suffered a surprising (albeit much less public) and devastating announcement that my husband no longer wished to be married, I find myself looking to Kate Gosselin for strength and courage, if she can do it, so can I!
She looks fantastic and I can’t wait to see her moves on the dance floor.
I don’t mean to stalk you today, but I LOVE what you have to say about Kate Gosselin! I think it’s sad how some people like to bash others to make themselves feel superior. I watched “Jon & Kate Plus 8” back when it was this little-known show on TLC that no one had heard of. I’m sad when any marriage falls apart, for the parents and for the kids. I was especially sad for this family because they had made it through so much and they clearly loved each other.

I agree! While we all love to hate Kate but if I had to support 9 people + 1 deadbeat ex-husband I would definitely take whatever ethical and moral job that came along. While she might annoy many people she does deserve support if she is willing to put herself in this situation in front of millions of people. Dancing is hard work and extremely difficult. Lord knows most of us could never do this.
I will be voting for her weekly. Go Kate!! You look great.

ok here we go, hate me, but I have to disagree. Maybe 50/50.
Yes I am 100% all for moms that work and takes care of themselves, and run 3 miles everyday, and works to put (organic) food on the table, cooks home cooked meals for 8 kids and looks fabulous!
But not everybody has 8 kids that just saw their parents go through a divorce! I totally think this was wrong timing by Kate!
I am not judging her in anyway, more power to her. However as a kid with divorced parents, this isn`t a fun ride at the carnival! Their wholes lives been on TV, mom and dad are not together anymore etc etc etc. Don`t you think taking time “off” to be with your kids when they really need you the most? No $$ amount can ever turn that time back. She already has plenty of $$ to be fine for the next year or two.
That is my opinion said with L O V E. (wonder how long she is going to last flying back and forward and stuff.)
Oh and with “stuff” I mean, promotions for the show like interviews, cover shoots, show appearances etc etc. Seriously?
Thanks for this blog because up to my reading it I was one of those judging moms!!! I thought she has had too much exposure and was sick and tired of her. But like you said she is only doing the best she can and who am I to judge. Thanks alot for helping me look at this differently. Kudos to you Annie . Keep up the wonderful blogs.
I think Kate has such haters because she painted herself to be the “perfect mom” very rigid etc. I have a close friend who has eight children and she doesnt look a day over nineteen. She cooks homemade meals (mostly organic), sews, etc. The difference is, she always seems to ENJOY her children and doesnt want the world to bow at her feet because she has eight children.
Kate Gosselin comes across as completely the opposite. She doesnt seem to enjoy her children (though Im sure she does) and seems to enojy the media attention and fame more than anything.

Innercity Mom, Thank you for your comments, I agree that she doesn’t always seems to “enjoy” her children, and I wonder how much of that is due to editing… Maybe that is something to be learned from Kate – take time to really enjoy your kids, they grow up so quick!

I guess that I have always had a soft spot for Kate as well. I used to watch the show because they were surviving 8 and all I had was 2. It made me feel better when she was shown not having a good day, or barking at her hubby, or just trying to enjoy it knowing it was all being taped. I would hate to be taped as I am not a perfect mom either, even though I wish I could be. I actually benefited from the show as I too have reemed the husband out in public, and realize that perhaps that is not the best thing to do, for his pride and the relationship.
I unfortunately do not think she will be DWTS for too long, it seems that it is a toss up between her and Buzz A for the worst celebrity to dance last night.

My heart is still broken that this family has split up. I thought they were such a great family. Kate came off a little bossy, and John a little submissive, but everyone has their own personalities. I just wonder if they never had jumped into the Hollywood arena if they still would be together.
I know, I was pretty upset when i heard they were breaking up, but its for the best. I was an avid Jon and Kate watcher and though she is a little crazy sometimes i still think she is doing the best she can to raise 8 children! I mean no one can really talk unless they have been in her situation, which most haven’t so they need to shut their mouths! Also, being a single mom of 8- yeah i don’t think people should be talking! She is famous now and it isn’t any different than Angelina Jolie going to Paris or wherever else in the world to shoot a film, leaving her children with Brad. Kate once said that if she could support her children working as a nurse she would- but that doesn’t make enough money so she is doing what DOES make the money. I think that no matter what she chose to do people would always find something wrong!!!!
