Just as we shed our sweaters and coats in the summer, our makeup bags need to unburden themselves of heavy foundations and ultra-rich moisturizers. Swap them out for lightweight but complexion-covering BB (beauty balm) and CC (color correcting) creams.

1. theBalm Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer SPF 18 $25 Best for: Sensitive skin (it is fragrance-free) who are already fans of tinted moisturizers. This is the lightest and most sheer formula of the seven featured. It comes in six shades, and the lightest color, “Lighter than Light.” is popular with porcelain beauties. 2. Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream Compact $35 Best for: Gals who adore compact/sponge applicator foundations. The hydrating formula will not look cakey. 3. Lumene Vitamin C+ Illuminating Anti-Aging BB Cream SPF 20 $15 Best for: Minimalists who try and wear the least amount of makeup possible. This subtle cream makes skin look unpainted yet flawless. 4. Iman Cosmetics CC Correct and Cover Creme $15 Best for: Women with darker skin tones (it is available in five shades from Sand Medium to Earth Deep.) This innovative formula starts out as a powder and then transforms to a cream as you smooth it on. 5. L’Oreal Visible Lift CC Eye Concealer $10 Best for: Those of us who wear makeup mainly to deal with our under-eye circles and bags. This is the best under-eye roller I have found to naturally blend and eliminate purple shadows. The sheer but effective concealer also works around the nose and to conceal other imperfections. 6. H20+ Face Oasis CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 $35 Best for: Gals who are in the sun a good deal (the broad spectrum sunscreen means your mug is protected from both UVA and UVB rays) and who would like a good amount of color coverage — the rich formula really conceals. 7. Shiseido Perfect Hydrating BB Cream $33 Best for: Dry skin that needs a brightening boost; this cream is packed with light-reflecting ingredients and intense moisturizers.

Are you a BB or CC cream devotee? Which is your favorite?
