Despicable Me 2 VIP Extravaganza!

DespicableMe2
I just returned from one of the most fabulous press trips I have ever been on and what I like to call “The Despicable Me 2 Extravaganza!” or what many are calling “Minion Mayhem”.  My kids and I were flown to Orlando, Florida not only see the new Despicable Me 2 movie (which hits theaters July 3rd)) but to party with the minions, experience the minion mayhem ride at Universal Studios, enjoy a Despicable Me character breakfast, go on a wild scavenger hunt at Universal Studios and get a VIP tour of the park. If that wasn’t enough, we also got to see Blue Man Group, attend a meet and greet of the popular band, Big Time Rush and see them in concert!

Like I said,  extrava-ganza!
And I I do it all so I can report back to you.

Despicable Me 2 Movie Screening Savvy Sassy Moms

Despicable Me 2 Movie

We kicked off our VIP weekend by seeing the Despicable Me 2 movie.  We were escorted to the Universal Studios movie theater and our group had a private screening of the movie, starring all your favorite characters from the first Despicable Me movie.  My kids were super excited to see the minions back in action, and I’m not going to lie, I was too.  The movie is fun for both the kids and the adults.  Humor for everyone!

In Despicable Me 2, everyone’s favorite bad guy turned supermushpot dad-Gru sets out to help save the world of an army of evil purple minions while also saving his oldest daughter Margo from a broken heart.  I have a special spot for Gru and Margo because Margo reminds me so much of my daughter McKenna (the sassy personality and the glasses) and Gru’s relationship with his girls is like many father’s and daughters and I also I see many similarities between Gru and my husband. Both Gru and my husband are bald and look tough but are complete softies when it comes to their little girls.

I am also in LOVE with the Despicable Me Minions, who isn’t?  They are some of the best characters ever created in my opinion. They don’t say much and when they do it’s total nonsense but they are hilarious and ridiculously cute.  I am happy to say they have not changed one bit in Despicable Me 2.  The soundtrack is of course hip, cool and will make you want to get up and dance. Speaking of dancing….It’s not everyday you get to dance with Minions!

Dance Party with the Minions

After the screening of the film we were taken to a private minion dance party where we were greeted by all the characters from the Despicable Me 2 movie.  The party was a mix of minion & Mexican flare. Special Blue Minion Martini’s were served to the adults and non-alcoholic ones to the kids.  Yup, it’s official, my kids had their very first martini’s. The minions danced with the kids all night long, took silly pictures and I even saw one of them trying to sneak his own martini at the bar;)

My kids love playing and drawing on their iPads during the party. The kids got to try out the Draw Something 2 App and learned step by step how to draw their own Minion. I mean, look at their concentration! They love it!

Blue Man Group

The night was still young (we were on west coast time) so we took in the 9:00 pm show of the Blue Man Group, which I am so glad we decided to see.  My kids absolutely LOVED it.  This is a must see show for kids while visiting Universal Studios in Orlando.  I saw this show years ago in Las Vegas and it was just as fun and exciting as I remembered it to be.  The show has changed a bit since I saw it last and there are even some very modern pieces added into the show. I loved looking over at my kids faces and watching them with eyes wide-open enjoying this very unique, very blue show.   After the show we even got to meet one of the blue men.  My daughter was so confused by his blue skin and was having a horrible time trying to figure out if his skin was blue in real life.

But wait there’s SO much more…

This was just day one!  Next I will share with you the Universal Studios scavenger hunt we participated in, a closer look at minion Mayhem ride and more Despicable Me fun.  Stay tuned!

  1. Much to my surprise, my 11 year old (who often says these days he is too ‘old’ for certain things) said this is a MUST!!! He would have loved your Press trip!
