The price tag on a nice diaper bag just seems to keep going up and up, which means it had better last well beyond the baby years. But, what exactly will you do with that bag when not filling it with diapers and sippy cups? Today I’ve come up with a list of six bags that are not only gorgeous and useful diaper bags, but go above and beyond to become other essential bags for your everyday life.
1. Diaper bag to camera bag
Kelly Moore makes absolutely gorgeous bags. Originally designed to be used for storing your DSLR camera, they also make for amazing diaper bags. Adjustable dividers, pockets, real leather — oh my! I gave the amazing Pilot Backpack a test spin (because I love me a good backpack) and I actually ran out of stuff before I ran out of storage spots. The canvas is thick and durable, and the leather is so soft. My favorite was the front pocket credit card slots, which eliminated having to carry a wallet and, for the first time, my husband has asked to borrow the diaper bag when I was done with it. Sorry honey, you’re going to be waiting a long time.
2. Diaper bag to gym bag
Petunia Pickle Bottom has long been a name synonymous with quality diaper bags, which mean this bag will well outlast the years it will be used. So, what then? My favorite of the bunch is the Petunia Pickle Bottom Wistful Weekender. It is super roomy with tons of space and a frame that holds its shaping, making it perfect to go from diaper to gym bag in a pretty little second. Yoga to crossfit, you may just skip the diapers all together and go straight to the locker room!
3. Diaper bag to book bag
There are great diaper bags and then there are diaper bags that have both moms and non-moms alike stopping you in the grocery store just to ask where the heck you got that amazing bag — the TWELVElittle Unisex 3-in-1 Tote is the latter. (Seriously though, I get stopped once a week, at least.) Super roomy without being hugely obnoxious, this tote can be worn three different ways and will be your new best friend. The exterior is water-resistant and has two large insulated pockets, one slip pocket, and one small zipped pocket. Don’t forget about the bonus hidden zipper pocket at the bottom for dirty items… I’ve used it several times to stash my wallet while out. The inside is accessed via one huge zipper opening at the top, is completely water-resistant, has four deep pockets (two of which are elastic for secure keeping), one zippered pocket and a logo changing pad. The overall size of this bag is perfect for even the largest laptop and everything else you could ever need for a day at school.
4. Diaper bag to carry-on
If you’re a mom who hits the skies for work or travel often — with or without kids — the Sons of Trade Tactical Tote is a lifesaver. As a diaper bag, it is the biggest and best of the bunch. The brother brand to Petunia Pickle Bottom, Sons of Trade bags have an outdoorsy unisex style that shows its self in both function and appearance. The bag is made from super-thick canvas, making it last whatever adventures you’ll take it on and with its ability to stand up as a deep tote or fold over as a backpack, you can really take this bag anywhere. And, true to its Petunia Pickle Bottom roots, there are pockets and parent-friendly features everywhere. When you’re done using it as a diaper bag or if you’re traveling sans-kids, it easily fits a 17-inch laptop and all of your must-have travel gear as a carry-on bag.
5. Diaper bag to super organized overnight bag
The organized part of my brain is obsessed with the Hatch (Anti) Diaper Bag. But while this is obviously a pretty fantastic diaper bag, my first thought was this would make an excellent overnight bag! The Hatch (Anti) Diaper Bag comes with a changing mat and three zippered pouches stitched with “THIS, “THAT” and “THE OTHER,” which to me is undies, jewelry and makeup! The exterior of this navy blue beauty is wipe-able nylon with a relaxed black leather strap. If the three removable pouches aren’t enough, there are plenty of other additional pockets throughout the bag. Overnight with ease and never lose track of another item with this bag in tow.
6. Diaper bag to beach bag
Having some sort of large tote is a necessity, especially one that can take you from the beach to the pool and beyond. The Day Tripper from Birdling Bags is my favorite bag for everyday excursions where a typical diaper bag just won’t fit the bill. Made from durable, water-resistant canvas with plenty of pockets for your phone and other necessities, the Day Tripper also comes with a water-resistant snap-in nylon pouch and an optional shoulder strap for versatility.
What will you do with your diaper bag when you’re done with diapers?
